Separation anxiety is not an uncommon occurrence in puppies. Here are some tips to help you help your new arrival cope while you are away:
- Don't make a big deal out of leaving for work. If you don't make it seem like a big deal, your puppy might start to think it is not such a big deal either.
- Practice leaving and returning. Giver your pup a treat and then leave the house for a minute or two. Soon your puppy may start to associate your departures with a happy experience. You can expand on this by gradually leaving the house for longer periods of time.
- Consider using a kong or other toy/treat to keep your puppy distracted for an extended period of time. A kong with peanut butter or frozen banana has been known to keep a puppy entertained for a good while.

It might not be a bad idea to hire a pet sitter or have a friend/relative stop in during the day to check on your puppy.
