What sor tof training? Potty training? We had a lot of success using a crate for potty training.

If you mean tricks and general behavior, then I would recommend positive reinforcement. Try to catch your beagle sheperd in the act of doing what you want him/her to be doing. When you do, praise the heck out of him/her and give treats when appropriate.
